Renovations

A pool renovation need not be just a re-surfacing to provide a better look and that's all.

At Peninsula Pool Renovations we offer re marble plaster lining of old Gunite pools, using Top Quality Cemcrete Poolcrete Pool Plaster as well as Fibreglass lining of new shells, old Gunite pools, old Fibreglass shells as well as repair to Fibreglass shells. We use Top Quality Isophthalic (Standard) or Vinyl Ester Resins (for heated pools) with 450g matting and tissue (or 2 x 300g matting and tissue for suspended or above ground pools). G4 primer is recommended as a bond between the fibreglass and substrate.

The pool need not stay the same shape, free form pools have been transformed into rectangular pools, large pools have been made smaller and very occasionally, small pools are made larger,

We also install stainless steel letterbox water features, do paving (Brick and Revelstone) as well as wall cladding.

A Brief Description of Marble Plaster Pools

Please note that the process could vary depending on the scope of the contract:

  • An auger test is carried out in high water table areas to determine the level of the underground water.
  • The system is switched off at the mains and the pool emptied. As a precaution, a hole is knocked in the floor of the pool to allow any underground water into the pool.
  • A new skimmer box, aimflow and underwater light are installed.
  • Existing mosaics are removed, copings and new mosaics are applied.
  • Paving is laid on a sand / cement screed (or on concrete depending on the ground conditions).
  • The surface is chipped with axes and an acid wash is carried out to remove algae and or greasiness.
  • A Stipple Bond or Flex Bond layer is applied (depending on the choice of plaster).
  • The surface is allowed to cure (time will depend on the choice of plaster).
  • The pool is re plastered and left to cure overnight.
  • The plasterer will check the pool the following day and start filling it.

It is critical that nothing gets into the pool (example: pets) before it is filled.

ONCE THE POOL STARTS FILLING DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE HOSE UNTIL THE POOL IS FULL. SWITCHING THE HOSE OFF WILL RESULT IN A WATER MARK (MUCH THE SAME AS A BATH RING) AND THIS WILL BE PERMENANT!

The pool cleaner and salt for the chlorinator may not be added for at least 4 weeks after refilling.

The pool needs to be brushed and vacuumed to waste (using a vacuum brush, not a 8 wheel sweeper) 3 x a week for the 1st 4 weeks.

Brief Description of Fibreglass Lining

Please note that the process could vary depending on the scope of the contract.

  • An auger test is carried out in high water table areas to determine the level of the underground water.
The system is switched off at the mains and the pool emptied. As a precaution, a hole is knocked in the floor of the pool to allow any underground water into the pool.
  • A new skimmer box, aimflow and underwater light are installed.
  • Existing mosaics are removed, copings and new mosaics are applied.
  • Paving is laid on a sand / cement screed (or on concrete depending in the ground conditions).
  • The surface is primed with G4 primer
  • The surface is primed with Isophthalic or Vinyl Ester Resin.
  • A layer of 450 gram chopped strand matting and 1 layer of surfacing tissue are applied to the surface
(if the pool is suspended or is a newly built pool, we recommend 2 layers of 300 gram chopped strand matting).
  • A layer of tissue mosaics are applied to the perimeter.
  • The surface is sanded and a NPG / ISO pool coat is applied.
  • Apply NPG / ISO pool coat ratio 450g / m².
  • The surface is re - sanded where needed and re - coated where necessary.
  • A non - slip base is applied to all step areas.

All materials used are SABS standard. The above process differs slightly if we reline a Fibreglass lined pool or a Fibreglass shell.

No guarantees are issued for any colour other than standard Pool Blue and White. Suppliers of poolcoat / topcoat cannot guarantee colour fastness, especially with the darker pigments, therefore we must make you aware of the great possibility of discolouration occurring before the pool is filled and/or immediately on filling the pool.
